The Vice President for Information Technology will play an integral role in providing institutional leadership and in addressing the important issue of how technology impacts teaching and learning as well as institutional success.  The Vice President for IT will develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive strategic IT plan for The Graduate Center, aligning operational IT goals with the objectives of the Graduate Centers multi-faceted educational mission.  The Vice President will work with constituent groups such as the Executive Officers of the Ph.D. programs, the Presidents Cabinet, the Doctoral Students Council leadership, the Directors of Centers and Institutes and others in the GC community to promote opportunities for the use of emerging technologies to support excellence in teaching and learning and to improve support services for faculty, students and staff.

 

Specifically, the Vice President for Information Technology has responsibility for Graduate Center voice, video and data services, ranging from enterprise to end-user hardware and software systems.  The Vice President of IT will oversee the technological resources of The Graduate Center to support the academic and administrative programs of the institution within in the context of the City University of New York as a whole.  Responsibilities span the breadth of core IT functional areas: administrative services, user services, enterprise network and systems, application development, audio visual services, and research computing.  The VP for IT is responsible for strategic planning and budgeting, formulating and enforcing IT-related policies and procedures, addressing compliance issues associated with all applicable regulatory requirements, safeguarding the best interests of the Graduate Center and promoting its mission, providing expert advice and recommendations, engaging in professional growth and development, and providing vision, direction and leadership to unit managers and IT as a whole.  Specific duties include serving as the Graduate Centers representative to the CUNY IT Steering Committee, the GC Campus Executive for the CUNY FIRST initiative, and Chair of the GC Student Tech Fee Committee.  The VP for IT administers multiple budgets, including annual operating budgets totaling approximately $2.5  million (excluding personnel costs) and substantial capital project budgets arising from special appropriations.  The VP for IT administers a staff of approximately 75.

 

Qualifications:  

The successful candidate must have a BA/BS degree in business administration, information management systems, computer science or a related field.  An advanced degree in one of these disciplines is desirable.  The ideal candidate must also possess strong leadership skills and at least 8 years of IT experience at a college or university and must demonstrate progressively increasing management responsibilities.  He/she must have excellent written and verbal presentation skills along with a proven ability to communicate technical issues to all constituencies. He/she should possess advanced knowledge of computing networks, server operations, database systems and systems design and must have successful proven experience managing budgets and in negotiating contracts with IT hardware, software and telecommunications vendors.  Experience with the implementation of a campus-wide ERP system is highly desirable.
